Superheroes are usually busy saving our planet. They wear tight clothes, their hair is always fixed and they look amazing no matter what. The question is who DOESN’T want to look that good and have extraordinary superhuman powers?

Superheroes and their attire have inspired fashion designers all over the world and the result is – a cool and colorful fashion trend. Spring 2012 is the right time to prove that the immortal comic heroes can conquer fashion stages.

Unlike other trends,  the fashion rules are clear: tight black clothes, huge capes, gloves and masks are crucial part of becoming a real-life superhero. As for the colors, you can go for the obvious black, or go a little wilder with blue, red, yellow or metal outfits. And don’t forget the prints!

The superhero fashion trend is fun and special, it also has a sexy aspect. During its 2011 fashion show, lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret implemented above-the-knee boots, gloves and a cape to prove that even an Angel can become a superhero.

Top designer Phillip Lim dedicated his Fall 2012 collection to superheroes. Under the title “Modern-Day Superheroes,” the American designer presented sleek pieces with geometric shapes in black and white (a call to light vs. dark.)  Lim also included knits, coats without collars, metal accents and oversize capes. Once the show was over the designer admitted his line was a collection for the modern-day superhero walking around today.

Even one of New York’s most famous art museums – The Metropolitan Museum of Art – was swept by the iconic heroes. In 2008, the museum hosted a special exhibition dedicated only to them. “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” examines how Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Catwoman and their friends influenced big name fashion designers all over the world. Top designers like Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander McQueen and Giorgio Armani have presented their designs at this exhibit.

Are superheroes just a fantasy? Our thoughts are--ABSOLUTELY NOT! But what do you think?
