Paris Fashion Week Sets the Trends for Spring 2013

Transparency is having a bit of a moment right now, revealing itself as one of the hottest trends floating around (quite literally) the accessories scene at Paris Fashion Week. The influx of Perspex, has seen shoes, bags, hats, bangles, and you-name-it -- all gone see-through, leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination!

Just take a peek (a-boo) at the Spring 2013 shoes. We’ve seen light-refracting kitten heels from Givenchy, gold-brimming perspex boots at Alexander McQueen, and Perspex wedged soles from Stella McCartney; where nothing short of Cinderella’s Perspex slipper was soon to hit the catwalk.

But Perspex doesn’t always appear to be the most flattering of materials, just take a look at Givenchy’s transparent strap sandal looks: the models appear to have some seriously wide looking feet at the bottom of their romantic, ruffle-tastic ensembles! We say stick to the heels Riccardo!

Lagerfeld gets plastic happy for Chanel Spring 2013

Meanwhile, fashion maven, Mr Karl Lagerfeld, gave us a fantastic set of looks for Chanel Spring 2013, as big sun hats with clear plastic brims hung casually from the models hands in an array of clear, tinted blue, and black record-shaped chapeaus. We hope its not going to be a blustery Spring, because this look’s a keeper!

We also loved, loved, loved the plastic bangles at Chloé and jewel encrusted cuffs at Dior! Votes are in ladies: plastic will see you through Spring with a trendy swing.

Black and yellow outfit combinations are always a bit of a no-go-zone, for fear of looking significantly like your typical bumblebee, or even worse, a Transformer! But this Paris Fashion Week told us, “away with the stigmas!” as bee-inspired looks have been creating quite the buzz this season!

First up, 27-year-old creative director Olivier Rousteing chose for Balmain’s Spring 2013 lookbook an interesting combination of ‘90s-inspired power suits which came in a range of silhouettes, and cuts. But it was the statement combination of black-and-yellow diamond print cropped jackets and Beetlejuice striped high-rise trousers that really woke up the crowd. This collection was the bees knees!

Meanwhile, Sarah Burton’s collection for Alexander McQueen took inspiration from the motif of a honey bee as an entire theme for Spring 2013 -- and she flew with it. A honey-based color palette, honeycomb patterns, and beekeepers veils adorned the models from head-to-toe. Burton certainly made us rethink our bee complex with this exquisitely elegant and slightly erotic show from the queen bee herself.

And then there was one. Naturally, Marc Jacobs was going to give the designers a run for their money with his Spring 2013 collection for Louis Vuitton, and everyone knows... the man knows how to put on a show! Maybe we should have seen it coming, looking back at Marc Jacobs Resort 2013 collection, but checkered dresses in yellow and white or black and white combinations gave us the grand finale we had all been hoping for! And no, while he didn’t go for the direct black and yellow combo, we couldn’t help but include him in our trends, after all, he did USE black and yellow for Louis Vuitton Spring 2013! A truly astounding spectacle.

Fur fear of having a show ransacked by anti-fur protesters, or fake blood thrown around the set, use of real fur in designer’s collections has been wiped from the catwalk almost in its entirety. Yet this Paris Fashion Week, fur made a moderate comeback, pushing all controversy-aside, as designers took the luxe trend-of-bygones and played with it.

Miuccia Prada’s Spring 2013 Miu Miu fashion show on Wednesday, was courageous to say the least, with heavy doses of fox-fur shrouding the models shoulders on a number of looks, evoking a Hollywood femme fatale

Meanwhile, mink-fur covered shoes and inner-soles, got fashion editors’ heads in a spin at Céline’s Spring 2013 collection, but not because designer Phoebe Philo used fur, no, because of the confusing shoe designs that the fur adorned!

Whether you’re a pro or anti fur-natic, it appears that Spring is going to arrive with a dose of luxury.
