Lets Get Beautiful: Teasing Topknots, Bold Brows, and Neon Nails

Funky Topknots

Time to step away from the catwalk for a moment and check out what’s been happening on the streets over the past few fashion weeks, as statement hairstyles have been flinging around -- and FashionTV is loving the fun bun!

A playful way to pull back your hair on a windy Spring day is to bun it, and there’s lots of ideas this month. Kim Kardashian and Kelly Osbourne have been spotted around New York and London in recent fashion weeks sporting the sky high, super tight twisted topknots. While back on the runway, Joanna Mastroianni set the standards for exquisite twisted updos as she showcased her SS13 collection at New York Fashion Week, and simply bobby pins and hairspray are the way to make it happen! While moving over to London, textured topknots accessorised with ribbons, scarves, and flowers were storming both the catwalk and street style at London Fashion Week.

Eyelights

Bigger is better is the motto this fashion season as filled eyebrows and look-at-me lashes are all over the runway for SS13; and makeup artists are making them stronger and thicker than ever before! Just take a look at Marc Jacobs models at New York Fashion Week -- Nars Eyeshadows in Bali and Bengali shades have been stroked to Edie Sedgwick perfection on the models nude tone faces, enhancing their natural features.

Photo taken by Vital Agibalow

Meanwhile, more statement, less “wearable” brows featured at Thakoon with super-arched, thick shadow was plastered on the models faces casting a look of severity to contrast the whimsical bird print dresses. And naturally born trendsetter Alexander Wang flip-reversed the big brow fad, bleaching away a select few of the blond models’ and sticking a platinum strip of white tape, horizontally between their forehead. So, ladies, listen up... don’t be shy. Bold brows are the number one accessory this Spring.

Nail Art Brights

Nail trends are featured heavily at fashion weeks as the seasons move forward and FashionTV has selected our favorite paint jobs this SS13 for you to marvel at and try at home! Away with the nudes, we want color, adventure, and statement to scream from our nails this coming Spring, so where better to check out what’s going on than heading straight to the catwalk for some nail-tastic inspiration!

Models nails match the PPQ psychedelic SS13 collection

FashionTV loves PPQ and their psychedelic nails. With all the nude nails floating around this fashion week, we got color happy when we saw some sophisti-psycho nail art pop up at PPQ’s showcase in London. While other striking nail moments came from MAC and their bloody nail tips at Prabal Gurung in New York, The Blonds thematic nails were more than dazzling with silver-encrusted designs and a strangely split pinky nail! But FashionTV’s favorite Spring look came from the super bright Gingham prints on stiletto nails for Kate Spade, created by celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann... the perfect accessory for a stylish day about town!

Florentine Fragments: Fall/Winter 2012/13 Trend Report

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Let's take a tour of its most stylish neighborhoods and see why Florence has an ambiance that can also be showcased in stylish clothing.

Let's start in Piazza Santa Croce, which plays host to the ancient Florentine game of “Calcio Storico”.  Each year, teams representing the four quarters of the city fight it out for the neighborhood.   Watching such a fierce game calls for one of Fall’s tough leather jackets and a touch of patriotism through smart accessories from Delfina Delettrez and Olympia Le Tan, which both take Italian cultural references and apply them to statement accessories.

A city of great contrasts, over in the shade of Piazza “Santissima Annunciata”, timeless pieces from Burberry Prorsum and Alexander McQueen are paired with long, soft layers from Maria Lucia Hohan.   A favorite for red carpet dressing, the young designer’s soft, sweeping designs are super feminine and have a glamorous feel that has led to an A List following.

Up at the top of the city is San Miniato, one of the most historic locations in town, with a stunning view which makes it a perfect place to take a mid afternoon stroll before watching the sun set over the city.   To make it up to San Miniato in style opt for this season’s most practical new footwear: loafers.  These elegant essentials are  perfect for Fall/Winter.   Having received an update for the new season, they now come in a plethora of materials and prints.  Find the perfect pair and they can add a preppy finishing touch to a cute shift dress, dress down a more formal look or pair them with a matching print to make a bold statement from head to toe.    Etro and Alexander McQueen have both created statement loafers in printed velvets that have a luxe touch and can be worn both day and night.

A city famous for its artisans and craft culture is the ideal place to highlight the new fascination with delicate detailing.  From hand embroidery to sequined and beaded inserts, this Fall designer’s focused on high quality and personal touches.   These details, that can vary from one item to the next, and give some of the coming season’s key pieces a unique feel.  Hand stitched edging on jackets, embroidered patterns on coats and trousers and artisan crafted jewellery are just some of the elements that have become a key trend in the latest collections.  Get the look through with hand crafted details and unique jewelery from designers such as Akillis, whose pieces caught the eye of the celebrity stylist B Åckerlund whilst on a recent trip in Florence.
